NXP was honored at the recent “Oscars of the Dutch Business Community”—the King William I Awards—and won in the "large business" category against stiff competition. In a glittering ceremony in Groningen, Her Royal Highness Queen Máxima of the Netherlands presented the award to NXP's Netherlands country managers Jean Schreurs and Maurice Geraets.
The jury, which included Queen Máxima and the President of the Dutch Central Bank, chose NXP in the large business category over the other finalists Rituals Cosmetics and the mechatronic design house Demcon. The decision was based on what the jury described as NXP's “excellent entrepreneurship with a daring strategy that delivers a substantial contribution to people and society where it makes a difference”.

Key criteria for the jury in making their decision were characteristics such as courage, decisiveness, perseverance, sustainability and the promotion of creative and innovative entrepreneurship. Accepting the award, NXP's Country Managers Maurice Geraets and Jean Schreurs, who said of the award, “This is a kind of oeuvre prize, a reward for good and healthy companies that are important for the Dutch economy and national welfare".
The King William I Awards are named after the first king of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Willem Frederik (1772-1843), ancestor to the current King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima's husband. Every two years, a jury of prominent leaders of Dutch business gathers to determine which companies (SME and Large) are most deserving of the prestigious prize.
Reflecting on his discussion with The Queen, Geraets said, “Queen Máxima not only admires our great work in the Netherlands, she also values our role in global financial inclusion,” referring to the work that NXP does in mobile payment solutions. “She was also very interested to learn how we are enabling the transition to a more sustainable world with our solutions for electric driving, including electric two-wheelers in India".
“This is huge acknowledgement for all NXP employees that the jury awarded us the prize based on our history, our focused strategy and portfolio management, as well as our innovative products and solutions, our purpose, sustainability achievements and goals,” said Schreurs of the award. For Geraets and Schreurs, the personal involvement of the Dutch Queen added an additional gravitas. “This indicates that the King William I Award is taken very seriously,” Geraets said.
