Capacitive sensing devices are rapidly proliferating in consumer, computing, industrial, and automotive industries. They are widely used in electronic products in proximity detection mode to alert the equipment of a user's presence in the vicinity or in the touch detection mode to replace mechanical switches, key pads, tuning knobs, and mechanical sliders. The performance of a capacitive sensing device in an end-equipment is as important as the layout design of the system. This session will explore different design considerations that a system designer should be acquainted with before beginning any design with a capacitive sensor.
