At NXP, we recognize that each of us has a role to play in creating an inclusive environment where everyone is empowered to reach their fullest potential. Our EQUAL Employee Resource Group (ERG) provides a supportive community for our LGBTQIA+ team members and allies, and promotes a work environment where all members are fully accepted.
In addition to providing support for their members, all of NXP’s ERGs collaborate across geographic sites and teams, further enabling inclusion and a greater sense of belonging for everyone. By listening and providing support, deepening their understanding of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DE&I), and advocating for others, allies play an important role in building a strong culture of inclusion. For Pride Month 2024, we asked our global ERG members how we can all be a better ally for one another for Pride Month and beyond.
Being a true ally to the LGBTQIA+ community means actively participating in and supporting community events, creating spaces where voices can be heard and respected. For me, it involves embracing inclusivity and cultivating an environment free from judgement, where each individual feels valued for who they are. As an ally, I strive to understand and address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals, advocating for their rights and wellbeing. I acknowledge that I may not always reach this ideal, but it’s about respect, support, and the continuous effort to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully alongside the community.

One way to be an ally is to be open minded. With that in mind, we will think from different perspectives, care about others' points of view, and embrace diversity of thought so that we can build up trust and learn from each other and continue our growth. When we collaborate together, we will have more creative thoughts, have more innovation, and together we will make a difference!

It's important to take seriously the negative experiences that minorities face by not playing them down simply because we don't personally face the same challenges. For example, when a colleague discloses discomfort or any negative experience, I listen carefully. Just because I am not experiencing those situations, it does not mean it is not the reality for others.

Trust and respect are the foundation of our values, and we want everyone to feel safe bringing their authentic selves to work everyday. Whether it’s actively listening, being open-minded or making a continuous effort to learn, we all have the opportunity to be strong allies for one another for Pride Month and always. Even seemingly small actions can make a significant positive impact in building an inclusive culture where we can all be brighter together.
