At NXP, we believe that our international workforce is central to our operations. The team’s safety, comfort and wellbeing are vital to our long-term success, which is why NXP is committed to fair and ethical business practices. With a progressive vision for our workforce and by taking action, we strive to ensure that all of our team members are treated with respect, dignity, and consideration, whether they work directly for us or in our extensive supply chain.
A comprehensive approach to human rights.
As part of our sustainability strategy, we go beyond standard evaluations. NXP carries out an annual Social Responsibility and Human Rights risk assessment across our entire supply chain. This comprehensive audit is conducted in close collaboration between NXP’s Social Responsibility and Human Rights office and NXP’s Purchasing teams. It is more than a routine check—it is a continuous process of learning and adapting. Overall, it allows us to gain insight into the state of our workforce, compare the results against our vision of fair and ethical practice and ultimately to set priorities for our supply chain auditing activities.
Supporting workers at all levels.
Upholding human rights means extending our commitment to all individuals, covering all workers from our direct operations and supply chain, including people who provide onsite services at NXP locations. Our research and due diligence mainly focus on our Tier 1 foundry partners, OSATs (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test), and materials suppliers. However, NXP also inspects our indirect suppliers, including logistics and warehousing partners.
Delivering a vision of human rights for all.
At NXP, our commitment to human rights extends to all workers, including often overlooked groups such as security, janitorial, and cafeteria staff. We do our best to ensure that their rights are also protected and that their employers comply with our rigorous social responsibility and human rights standards.
Keeping the vulnerable safe is a priority and an ongoing challenge.
One of the main challenges NXP faces is ensuring that extended teams are not comprised of forced and bonded labor, particularly among foreign migrant workers. These workers leave their home countries in search of better opportunities, and often find themselves in a vulnerable position, frequently exploited by unscrupulous labor agents. Abuses include extorting excessive recruitment fees or confiscating personal documents such as passports. This leads to debt bondage, a form of modern-day slavery, where workers are trapped in a cycle of debt. Many of them are forced to live and work in sub-standard conditions.
How we take action to protect employees.
NXP has taken decisive action to combat abuses by implementing our Supplier Code of Conduct, and Auditable Standards on Social Responsibility. These are aimed at mitigating and ultimately eliminating human rights violations from our supply chain. NXP was also one of the first companies in our industry to introduce a Zero Recruitment Fees policy. This ensures that workers are not forced to pay recruitment fees and that their personal documents are not withheld. In cases where workers have already paid fees, our standards require that they be fully reimbursed. Additionally, we enforce strict guidelines on acceptable living conditions for workers to ensure their wellbeing.
Human rights are more than a corporate check list.
NXP’s commitment to human rights and social responsibility is not just a corporate obligation, we also feel it is a moral imperative. By treating all workers with respect and dignity, we strive to foster a work environment where everyone feels respected and valued, regardless of their role. This can also contribute to a fairer and more ethical global supply chain.
