NXP i.MX 7series provides secure and power-efficient processing for wearables withartificial intelligence capabilities
Tel Aviv, Israel, March 16 , 2016 – NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ:NXPI),today announced that NXP’s i.MX 7 series applications processor enables OrCam’srevolutionary wearable personal assistant product.
Introduced at CES 2016, OrCam-MyMe, an open development platform forwearables with artificial intelligence capabilities, continuously processesvisual and audio signals to create an “augmented attention” experience that enablescontext-based applications. The device aims to improve human wellness, byacting as a “personal assistant” to its users with potential development of applicationssuch as real-time profiling of people, tracking eating and fitness activities, monitoring facial expressions and summarizing daily habits.
The exceptional performance, togetherwith the power efficiency features of the i.MX 7 series processor, provides thepotential for innovative, security and long battery life in wearable computingand Internet of Things (IoT) end product applications. The i.MX 7Dual processorwas chosen by OrCam based on these features to power their new revolutionarywearable personal assistant device, MyMe.
“The i.MX 7Dual processor implementsa heterogeneous multicore architecture with the ARM® Cortex®-A7 core used fordeep learning processing and the Cortex®-M4 core for audio processing, helpingus achieve the small form factor and most power-efficient wearable device,” saidProfessor Shashua, co-founder of OrCam. “Developing with i.MX 7Dual was an easydecision based on our previous experience with the i.MX processor portfolio.”
“NXP is proud to collaborate with OrCamto introduce innovative and revolutionary products to the market,” said ShmuelBarkan, joint general manager and director of sales and marketing for NXPIsrael. “OrCam-MyMe creates a new segment of wearables with significantpotential for new applications that will drive better experiences forconsumers.”
The NXP i.MX 7 series is the latestgeneration of power efficient and full-featured applications processors from thesuccessful and broadly deployed i.MX platform. Based on the Cortex-A7 andCortex-M4 cores, i.MX 7 series operates up to 1 GHz for Cortex-A7 and up to 200MHz for Cortex-M4. The Cortex-A7 and Cortex-M4 achieve processor coreefficiency levels of 100 μW /MHz and 70 μW /MHz respectively. Moreover, the newlow-power state retention (LPSR) mode significantly contributes to the powerefficiency. Learn more.
