PCA9901为单个LED的20 mA电流源，允许LED以预定的模式单独闪烁，可减轻微控制器的负载并节省电池电量。

通过训练序列对器件进行编程：主控制器发送LED发光序列而PCA9901将它记住。一旦记住序列，就可对PCA9901进行编程以将其发送一次或循环发送直至主控制器要求序列停止。

通过单向单线接口发送命令和闪烁序列。命令包括：Training Start(训练开始)、Training End(训练结束)）、Execute Sequence(执行序列)(一次或循环直至发出停止命令)和Reset(复位)。闪烁序列包括最多3种不同的闪烁模式，各自由其ON和OFF时间定义。

旁通模式允许忽略训练序列，使LED输出随从单线接口逻辑状态，以直接通过微控制器控制LED。

外部电阻可设置流入LED的最大电流，范围在1 mA和20 mA之间。

PCA9901的工作电源范围为2.7 V至5.5 V。
